About Associated Scaffolding
Associated Scaffolding Company, Inc. has proudly provided excellent access equipment and services to our valued customers for over 60 years. In 1947, most of our customers were painters in the Durham, NC area, who rented frame scaffolding primarily for church interior jobs. We’ve come a long way since then, but still provide high quality scaffolding as well as erection and dismantling services.
For the last 40 years, Associated Scaffolding Company has been owned and operated by the Hawkins family. Gene Hawkins bought the company in 1968 and ran it until his retirement in 1985. At that time the current President, Tommy Hawkins, Gene’s son, assumed leadership of the company and has greatly expanded its scope. Since then, the third generation of the Hawkins family, Tommy’s sons Jeff and Brian, have entered the business.
In Associated Scaffolding’s early years, we had only four employees and just two vehicles. Today there are more than 120 employees and approximately 70 vehicles spread out over four states. Our service area includes North Carolina with branches in Durham, Raleigh and Greensboro, South Carolina with a branch in Columbia, Virginia with a branch in Richmond and Tennessee with a branch in Knoxville. We have 12 sales representatives that provide services across the country, offering design, product knowledge and competitive pricing for our access equipment rental, sales and erection/dismantle.
At Associated Scaffolding, we have many years of OSHA-certified experience and provide in-house OSHA safety training classes. No job is beyond our ability or knowledge to handle, from building scaffold on top of the shark-filled water at Ripley’s Aquarium, in Myrtle Beach, SC...to building system scaffold on I-beams starting at the second floor exterior level of a hotel without reaching the ground and going up 15 floor levels...to hanging swing stages around giant bridge columns...to wrapping system scaffold around church steeples… to building system scaffold in Duke University’s Aquatic Center diving pool, starting 17 feet underwater and continuing out of the water up to the ceiling. In other words, if it can be done, Associated Scaffolding can do it.
