Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Associated Scaffolding - News VA, TN, NC & SC

Some of our scaffold erectors have taken it upon themselves, after their regular shift, to erect a 30-foot tall “Frosty The Snowman” at our Durham facility at 1303 E. Geer St. The 2,000 pound ‘System Scaffold’ structure took them over 22 man-hours to erect. For each 20 inches of height, the diameter of “Frosty” first increased then decreased to complete his rotund shape. It is just one of the advantages of ‘System’ scaffold that allowed this kind of adjustment. After the structure was complete, they wrapped it with 6,000 lights to outline “Frosty’s” shape.

It is our hope at Associated Scaffolding that our neighbors as well as many people in Durham will enjoy our “Frosty The Snowman” as much as our erectors enjoyed creating it. They are already making plans for next year’s display. May this simple expression of the holiday season bring cheer and happiness to all who view it.

Associated Scaffolding Company Safety Committee News

Associated Scaffolding - News VA, TN, NC & SC

The Associated Scaffolding Company Safety Committee was pleased to welcome Tom Hayes of The TriSure Insurance Company as their guest speaker for the August meeting. Tom is the Safety Manager with TriSure in Raleigh. Prior to that, was a 22 year veteran of the North Carolina OSHA, serving 10 years as the Eastern Compliance Bureau Chief. Tom’s current role with TriSure includes safety training, on-site inspections and accident investigations. His presentation to the committee served to clear up some misconceptions about OSHA and give the committee a better understanding of the agency’s mission and operations. He added some insight about what changes we can expect from NCOSHA in the next few years. He also explained the difference between the Experience Modification Rating from the insurance industry and the TCR / DART ratings derived from the OSHA 300. The committee came away with more insight on how those ratings affect our company and how our safety policies affect those ratings.

SCAFFOLD ERECTOR COURSE INTRODUCED

Associated Scaffolding - News VA, TN, NC & SC

Associated Scaffolding’s Safety Director, Darren Spiker introduced a new selection in our training catalog.   The Scaffold Erector Training Program spans 4 days and includes a mixture of classroom training with practical hands-on experience building and dismantling a variety of scaffolds. This class goes beyond the Competent Person training for supported scaffolds by exposing students to several scenarios and requiring them to plan ahead for the required materials and sequencing of erection. Students will be able to compare the advantages and disadvantages of different types of scaffolds for a particular application.    This is one of only three such programs offered in the Eastern United States. Most classes will be taught in the Durham Training Center, but Spiker says we can also bring the course to the customer. For more information, check out the Training Center section of our web page.
