ABC STEP Award Recipient
Associated Scaffolding’s ABC STEP awards come from the Associated Builders and Contractors’ safety management system. When choosing businesses for this achievement, STEP looks at how a company handles safety management, reporting, and overall program performance.
ABC’s criteria for this recognition include reviewing a company’s:
- top leadership engagement
- health and safety policy statements
- employee participation
- safety responsibilities and accountability
- employee health and safety training
- substance abuse prevention
- annual health and safety goal setting
- trailing indicators, including review of claims and key safety rates
- task-specific safety planning, including hazard identification and analysis
Five Gold Awards in Six Years, Followed by Platinum
Associated Scaffolding earned the ABC STEP Gold Award five times in six years and most recently received Platinum recognition in back-to-back years.
To earn ABC STEP Gold, a company must meet ABC’s scoring requirements, maintain a documented substance abuse program, submit qualifying safety data, and keep its incident rate at or below the national average for its type of work.
Platinum recognition has tougher requirements. A company must earn a higher STEP score, keep its incidence rate at least 25% below the industry benchmark, and have no serious incidents or OSHA citations that would prevent it from qualifying.

An EMR is a workers’ compensation rating factor tied to a company’s past claims experience. It compares a company’s actual loss history to the expected loss history for businesses in the same classification. When the number is below 1.0, it generally indicates better-than-average loss experience for that type of work.
What Our 0.78 EMR Rating Suggests
Our 0.78 EMR is based on our workers’ compensation loss history. For scaffolding equipment companies that focus on access work, that number suggests strong consistency in how we train, supervise, and implement safety practices in the field.
SAIA-Accredited Training Center
Associated Scaffolding operates as an SAIA-accredited training center through the Scaffold & Access Industry Association. Built specifically for scaffold and access work, SAIA’s training program focuses on the safe use, erection, and dismantling of equipment rather than broad safety topics that could apply to almost any trade.
What It Takes to Become a SAIA Training Partner
SAIA outlines a defined process for companies that want to operate as Accredited Training Institutes. That process starts with current SAIA membership in good standing. From there, applicants submit materials for committee review, provide instructor résumés for approval, and complete SAIA’s required Train the Trainer Facilitator Skills Workshop and Competent Person Training programs.
How Our Safety Training Program Meets That Standard
Associated Scaffolding operates as a SAIA-accredited training center with classes led by experienced, certified instructors using materials developed by experts within the scaffold and access field.
Upon successful completion of our training courses, SAIA issues a signed certificate and an identification card.
Our training centers span across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, with classes offered at customer facilities. That makes it easier for contractors and crews to schedule training around active jobs, project locations, and workforce needs.
ISNetworld Membership
Associated Scaffolding is an ISNetworld member. This means we keep an active contractor account on a platform that many hiring clients use to review companies before work starts.
Through ISNetworld, contractors and suppliers submit company information along with records tied to safety, insurance, training, and other qualification requirements. ISN then reviews submitted information through its verification process against hiring-client and regulatory requirements.
Where Our ISNetworld Status Comes Into Play
On many larger commercial and industrial jobs, the review process starts before equipment is ever delivered to a worksite. Owners, general contractors, and project teams may first check whether a company’s records are up to date and whether required information has been submitted through the platforms they already use.
For our customers, this means we are participating in a system that many larger hiring clients already use during contractor review. It also shows that the documentation side of our work is maintained alongside the field support, equipment, and services we provide.
