About Weather Guard
Howard Knaack began building construction storage toolboxes in 1960, operating out of a small, one-room shop in the town of Crystal Lake, IL. He primarily sold them through his partners at the Brock Tool Company, a tool supply company, but their quality and durability made them take off rapidly. In less than two years, Knaack, LLC became a nationwide distribution network and by 1968, toolboxes were being produced at a 16,000 square foot facility and the company purchased the rights to build Weather Guard truck equipment from a sheet metal contractor in Missouri.
The company continued to expand the line of Weather Guard building product lines and improve the design on existing equipment, such as adding gas pistons to the truck boxes to improve how they open and close. Through the 1980s and 1990s, Weather Guard products were redesigned to increase security and durability while improving functionality by adding aluminum to reduce weight.
In 2012, WernerCo acquired Knaack LLC and the Weather Guard brand, but there has been no compromise on quality. In fact, operations continue to improve with new focuses on sustainability as well as durability and quality.
